Bantha bags a double in Secretariat badminton tourney

Top seed Ranjit Kumar Bantha of Odisha Fire Services bagged a double by winning both the men`s singles and doubles titles in the 3rd Secretariat All-Odisha Employees` Open Badminton Tournament, which concluded at Saheed Nagar Indoor Hall here today.

Trinath Dehuri (Nalco) won the veteran singles crown, while the veteran doubles title went to Bhubaneswar duo Dr Akshaya Kumar Sahoo and Chandi Prasad Das. Title winners in men`s singles and doubles categories received cash prizes of Rs 4,000 each, while that of veteran singles and doubles Rs 3,000 each.

Angul-Sukinda Railways Limited Managing Director Dilip Kumar Samantaray and SCST Development Commissioner-cum-Secretary Santosh Kumar Sarangi handed over the trophies and cash prizes at the closing ceremony. Host Odisha Secretariat Badminton Association chief adviser Priyadarshi Mohapatra, working president Chitta Ranjan Rout and general secretary Niranjan Pattanayak were present on the occasion.

Men`s doubles: Final: RK Bantha-SK Rout bt Giresh Behera-Chandan Maharana (Koraput) 21-11, 21-17. Semifinals: RK Bantha-SK Rout bt Ashish Ranjan Ray-B K Saha; G Behera-C Maharana bt Sushant Bal-Snehasish Patra 21-16, 21-17.
Veteran singles: Final: Trinath Dehuri bt Balabhadra Acharya (IOCL) 21-17, 12-21, 21-14. Semifinals: T Dehuri bt Pratap Kumar Khadanga (Koraput), B Acharya bt Sanjay Pattnaik (Puri).
